چکیده

White light emitting diode (WLED) technology has been regarded as an environment-friendly lighting in the future. The WLED lighting system is able to provide short range wireless communication while illuminating rooms. The WLED based visible light communication (VLC) systems employing orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access (OFDMA) technique has been investigated in many researches. However, the OFDMA technique has the inherent high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Such a VLC system with high peak power produces flickering light that can be detected by human eyes uncomfortably. In this paper, the application of single carrier frequency division multiplexing access (SC-FDMA) to VLC system is proposed and investigated. Because of the lower PAPR, the VLC system employing SC-FDMA technique outperforms comparable systems employing OFDMA, considered in terms of bit error rate performance under various practical considerations. Moreover, the proposed system also protects LED devices and human’s eyes from the over-bright due to peak signal power. Computer simulations corroborate the analysis results in the paper.

Peak-to-Average Power Ratio Analysis of SCFDMA Signal by Hybrid Technique

The low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in single-carrier systems has motivated the Long Term Evolution (LTE) Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to adopt single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) as the uplink multiple access scheme. In this paper, an enhancement of a SC-FDMA system by decreasing the PAPR is focused. A combination of clipping and Pulse shaping (RRC...

Reduction of PAPR for SC-FDMA System based on DCT and Hyperbolic Tangent Companding

SC-FDMA suffers from high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) problem, which restricts its usage in some applications. In this paper, a joint Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and hyperbolic tangent companding (HTC) technique has been studied in order to minimize the effects of the peak-to-average power ratio of the SCFDMA System. The proposed scheme utilizes a DCT rather than the conventional dis...

Performance enhancement of SC-FDMA systems using a companding technique

In this paper, a companding technique is proposed to effectively reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems. By companding the samples with large amplitudes, while enhancing those with small amplitudes, a significant reduction in the PAPR can be achieved. The performance of the proposed SC-FDMA with companding system is s...
